Mountains and the shores of the Ionian Sea Pindus Mountains & Islands of Kefalonia and Ithaca
Pindos the biggest mountain range of Greece, stretching from the Greek-Albanian border to the northern Peloponnese is considered the backbone of mainland Greece. We enjoyed stunning views and admired picturesque villages backed by impressive scenery ! In between we were accompanied by dolphins on our cruise on the Amvrakikos Lagoon. The last days we spent on shores of the Ionian Sea famous for their crystal clear waters and charming islands back onto the coastline of the mainland with its many coves and vast lagoons. From Kefalonia we “followed” Odysseus on his Homeric trip back to his home, Ithaca. For us it was a mere 30 minute ferry crossing. Western Greece also has its share of fascinating historical and archaeological sites which seemed to have escaped many visitors’ itineraries!
